The Historical Society and the Diefenbaker Canada Centre have partnered to install a new exhibition at the Diefenbaker Museum. This exhibit, Silk, Satin and Strength, highlights Olive Diefenbaker's clothing. Our exhibit, has many differences from the original exhibit shown in Saskatoon in 2024 and has the added benefit of being shown in the Diefenbaker's house. The Museum will be open Friday's from 1 to 4pm for the months of March and April for viewing this exhibit.
*** Note to visitors, this exhibit is located on the second floor of the house. We do not have a lift to get up the stairs. We will work to get a video available to those with mobility issues.

With the guidance of David and Mark Zulkoskey, we will take a look at the railway history of our city and the surrounding area with photographs, artefacts and anecdotes. Railways to be examined include the Qu'Appelle, Long Lake and Saskatchewan, Grand Trunk Pacific, Canadian Northern, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National and Carlton Trail Railways. Railways have made a significant contribution to the commercial development of Prince Albert and the transportation needs of its citizens.

Join us to hear Anne’s stories of how the small northern community of LaRonge developed from the fur trade to the 1970’s. Anne Hryniuk, the daughter of a Danish father and a Cree mother, is a lifetime resident of La Ronge. Meet and chat with Anne after the presentation. Anne's book, including signed copies, will be available for purchase. The book contains 500+ pages of photos, stories, anecdotes and local history.

The Bison Ridge Tour will take participants through the pasture, the corrals, the handling system, and finally the abattoir. There will be an opportunity to get up close to the animals and learn how they are raised in a respectful way that maintains a healthy ecosystem. In the abattoir, there will be an age-appropriate explaination of how the animals are harvested.

English-Metis and European settlers arrived in this area in the mid-nineteeth century. The three settlements were the Isbister Settlement, located near the current penetentiary, the Presbyterian Mission started by James Nisbet, and Goshen, the company town of the Hudson Bay Company, located in what is now the East Flat area.
