The Hudson Bay Company (HBC) in the Prince Albert Area
The HBC was part of this area from shortly after they established the first inland post at Cumberland House in 1774. HBC traders travelled along the North Saskatchewan regularly but they did not build a post at Prince Albert until almost a hundred years later and it wasn't to trade furs. Their first local operation was a farm to take advantage of the rich, river flat soil to grow food to supply their trading posts in other areas. Later, there was a flour mill, fur trading and other enterprises here until well into the 20th century.
Join us for coffee and conversation including a presentation on the HBC in the Prince Albert area. Bring your inquiring mind and any questions or contributions you might have about our topic.
