Original description: Used in first Great War??? Inscription: 1887 Serial 6356. Inscribed in barrel: Danzig and picture of crown. F.W. and picture of crown. Serial # (on barrel) 1095. Also inscribed on barrel "TG Mod 71/84". Attached is a leather carrying strap. Strap is not original. Not likely used in WWI due to age. May not be a Mauser (check a good weapons book). The inscription "71/84" could be date or serial #. The model used in WWI was the 1891 Mauser, not the 1887. Suspected that this was brought over before the war by a German or Prussian or Polish immigrant in about 1913—14. Possibly in 1905 German immigration 41.5 inches (added Dec. 14, 2009)
metal part that unscrews under the barrel — ? holds more ammunition
metal butt plate with this number —50.R16.147
impressed on the slings is "The Berlin Trunk and Bag Co Ltd. Berlin Canada 1914"
