Museum Travelling Suitcase Program

Each suitcase contains information and artefacts related to the topics. Suitcase topics are:

1. Evolution of Education Museum Kit

What was school life like generations ago? Take a virtual tour of the old one room school house. Explore the objects, books, and pictures that tell the story of education in Prince Albert’s past. Challenge your students to reading, writing and arithmetic like they did in the 1920’s to the 1960’s.

2. Four Aspects of Life (Medicine Wheel)

Prince Albert SUNTEP students assembled this kit to teach students about the Medicine Wheel and the four Sacred Medicines. Samples of the medicines, a smudge pan, a fabric Medicine Wheel, a drum, and several other resources complete this kit.

3. Prince Albert Métis: Then and Now

Prince Albert has a proud Métis history that started with James Isbister, our first river lot settler and Thomas McKay, our first mayor. This kit contains games, replica artefacts, photos, activities and informational books that introduce students to Prince Albert history and will touch on those who are still here building our community.

4. Remembering the Children

Prince Albert SUNTEP students assembled this meaningful collection of artefacts, photos and resources. It contains Orange Shirt day clothing for display, a star quilt, photos and art work as well as activities and lesson plans.

5. Transportation

One hundred, two hundred or even three hundred years ago - how did the people of the prairies get from here to there along buffalo paths, waterways and country roads? Trains, planes, automobiles, Red River Carts, dog sleds, snowshoes, canoes and steam boats all helped us get to where we are now. Photos, replica artefacts and activities complete this kit.

6. Treaty 6

Prince Albert SUNTEP students designed and assembled this kit to answer the “who, what, where, why and when” about Treaty 6. The artefacts and resources contained in the kit focus on the enduring understandings that:

  • We are all treaty people.
  • Promises mean responsibility.
  • It’s important to know our history as it guides our decisions today.

7. World War I and II

Everyday life changed during the World Wars for everyone in Prince Albert and area. Use the objects, activities and photos from Canada and the European battlefields to learn more about the changes these wars brought to our community and area.

8. World War I and II

(Featuring the indigenous enlisted) This kit pays tribute to the Prince Albert and area First Nations men and women who enlisted.

9. Diefenbaker

This kit is an introduction to the life of Canada's thirteenth Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker. Through virtual tours of Diefenbaker’s Prince Albert house, campaign posters, photos and newspaper clippings students will learn about his lasting impact on Canada.

10. Past-times: Games and Toys

In this kit of vintage table games, running games and toys you will find: ·game instructions ·vintage toys and games ·Short histories on the origins of the toys and games and information about the cultures they came from.

11. Touchable Artefacts

This is a collection of random artefacts related to technology. Artefact photo cards are included with full explanations and some suggested activities are included.

12. Community Leaders: Then and Now

Who are the people who have shaped our community? A collection of letters, journal entries, newspaper clippings, photos and artefacts will help you identify who the leaders were and are today in athletics, education, politics and the arts.

13. In Grandma’s House

Let’s explore Grandma’s kitchen and garden. What did she use to make wonderful old fashioned recipes or create gardens to sustain her family? Artefact cards with a full explanation of what the artefact is and how it was used are included along with the hands-on artefact. Simple recipes and activities are included.

14. In Grandpa’s Garage

Let’s explore Grandpa’s Garage and the many tools he would have used to repair and build useful household items. Artefact cards with a full explanation of what the tool is and how it was used are included along with the hands-on artefacts. Simple activities are included.

15. Kistapinanihk

Kistapinanihk – the gathering place for thousands of years. What was it about this area that drew people from all directions to engage in trade, celebrations, hunting and settlement? This kit contains information, artefacts and photos that tell the story about this ancient gathering place.

16. Bison, Bison, Bison

Sixty million Bison, aka buffalo, once roamed the grasslands of North America. They were a keystone species brought to the brink of distinction, but they are back! Learn more about the bison and its connection with the grasslands and humans.
